I have a Dymo handheld label maker that I bought at Walmart. It has three styles of font and three font sizes. I have used it for making labels for my classroom folders, labelling shelves on my daughters bookcase, and labelling contents in the canisters in my pantry, among other things. It's been great, nothing fancy. It was about $20, though you may be able to find others cheaper. Look in the office section of Walmart or Target.

I have the older version of this <a href="http://www.brother-usa.com/Ptouch/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=PT1290" rel="nofollow">label maker</a>

I would highly recommend it. Just the right size for portability. If you are looking for something that can connect to your computer they have models that will do that. you can't go wrong with Brother. Just make sure it has the QWERTY keyboard so it is more natural to type on.
