Organizing Showcase: A Thousand Words

in Organizing Elsewhere...

I can’t believe it’s almost been 2 years since I last did an Organizing Showcase! In o8′ I featured Chez Larsson before she even started her wonderful blog! In the Organizing Showcase I will highlight some of the ways the homeowner has organized their home and you might perhaps see that I am drawn to a common theme… SIMPLICITY!

Today I am going to showcase the beautifully organized home of Jen from A Thousand Words. Jen has photographed and shared how she has decorated and organized each home. It is great being able to look back at her family’s first home together and seeing the progression from first time homeowners to their current home and finding their decorating style!

Jen shares a whole post on how she uses plastic storage containers. Here is a glimpse into a wardrobe in her boys’ room.

Speaking of containers, Jen re-uses produce containers to organize all kinds of things like toiletries in the medicine cabinet and everything from cords to pens in the kitchen drawers.

Here is a great space space saver for Jen’s kitchen. She had shelves installed on the wall leading to her cellar for storing her canned goods. No pantry no problem! Hooks for her mop and broom were easily added to the wall as well.

Oh, and not to mention her refrigerator is completely organized as well! You can read up on how she has everything stored.

I just love this craft storage area in Jen’s living room. The neutral colors just tie everything together into a work of art in itself!

This is perhaps my favorite picture of all. I am a huge fan of taking pictures of memorabilia instead of holding onto the physical item. Jen took pictures of her boys’ artwork and displayed them in frames. The pictures are bite sized but you can clearly see what the artwork was!

Jen’s fabulous studio is something to completely swoon over! I shared a post from Jen in the past, how she re-used cabinets from her old house to make new items in this house. A few of those cabinets were used at this desk.

If you don’t have a mudroom here is proof that you can make a hallway work just the same!

While in my Organizing Showcase series I am showing homes that look magazine worthy, Jen’s home screams simplicity. Just look at her bedroom! I don’t want you to get discouraged and think you can’t accomplish the same. By keeping things simple and streamlined and cutting back on the excess you can make these kind of spaces for yourself. And it can be inexpensive as well! If you scour Jen’s blog you will see that she is using items from Ikea, repurposing items and reusing what she has.

Jen did a great series called Picture Perfect and described how she uses inexpensive art and photographs to hang on her walls. These pictures give visual interest to her home and makes it feel warm and inviting without adding clutter.

Thanks Jen for allowing me to share pictures of your home! Look for more Organizing Showcase features this year and feel free to nominate a blogger to be included!

What do you think? Did you get any ideas you might like to implement in your own home?

I absolutely love the kids’ artwork display idea! I am going to have to try that! That cuts down on clutter and displays a lot at one time. Thank you!

Your welcome, I so love the look of her home and we have similar wall colors downstairs. However, I wonder if her house has little hand prints on the bottom 3 feet of the walls like mine! I should have asked her that. :) We have to touch up or clean several spots a few times a year!
