Two things I really liked:

The mess will happen again (honesty).
You’d rather have the mess contributors than not (accepting that imperfection is more perfect and it shows your value is placed in the right place, which is that loved ones are a higher priority than being “organized” at all times.)

I am hoping for a mud room type of space in our next home. All the entries to our house just open up to our main living area – I’ve had to get extra creative so STUFF that comes in the door has an immediate place to be put as you come in, but I’d LOVE a space to catch a lot of our stuff before it comes in at all!!
