Organize Your Kitchen Like Julia Child!

Now that I have finally watched the movie Julie and Julia I thought I would share this post again about using pegboards for kitchen storage. I absolutely loved this movie but of course the organizer in me especially loved the part towards the end where Julia Child is moving into her home in Massachusetts. Her husband hangs her cookware and draws outlines around them so she knows just were they go. Makes for an organized and extremely efficient kitchen!

If you have a small kitchen or just not enough cabinet space for larger items like pots and pans you may have to look no further than your kitchen wall. Not only do the kitchen necessities look a bit like a work of art but, by using a pegboard you can store all the items you need for maximum functionality. It will even cut down on time in the kitchen spent opening cabinets and drawers riffling around for what you are looking for.

Once you get your pegboard organized just so, you can create an outline of the cookware so you know exactly where to put it back after you need it. (Just like Julia Child!)

This is a cool idea. I just wish I had a wall for it.

Just wondering how easy it is to keep it all clean. I don’t have one of these hoods over my cooker, so my kitchen tends to get greasy very quickly. I’m lucky to have a large kitchen though, with lots of cabinets and a pantry, so I can simply store everything behind closed doors.

But the pictures are nice, it looks very colourful!

I’ve always wanted to put a big pegboard in my kitchen for just this purpose. I think I could find a wall if I moved some things around. It would be so nice not to have to bend over to open cabinets and grab out my pots.

Then, of course, I’d want to go out and buy some new, super colorful pots to hang in full view. But that wouldn’t be such a bad thing!

So Julia Child actually did this first? Coolness! I saw Martha Stewart do this several years ago with garage tools and loved the idea. Knowing me, though, I’d have to constantly repaint the pegboard because I’d be changing it around so much!
