Thanksgiving Traditions

by Tanna Clark

After everyone is finished with the Thanksgiving meal at our house, half of the men retreat to watch the football game/take a nap. The rest of us sit around playing board games and chasing children around. Playing games after any big meal has been a tradition for my husband’s family for quite some time. It is fun to see the younger generations now wanting to get their own games out and join in on the fun.

I always thought it would be a great idea to start a tradition in which we write down things we are thankful for to read off at Thanksgiving. Check out this great tutorial from Little Birdie Secrets on creating a Thankful Jar. What’s even better is that the idea is multipurpose. She reuses the strips of paper that the thankful thoughts were written on and makes a paper chain to wrap around the Christmas tree!

Get the whole family involved in a recipe swap! Send everyone matching printable recipe cards in advance and have family members write down their favorite recipes! Or just have one person in charge of collecting recipes and have a family recipe book printed to share with everyone when they get together!

What Thanksgiving traditions do you celebrate?

I love this idea! I realized the other day we don’t have any great Thanksgiving oriented family traditions…this would be a great one to start!
