We have 5 drawers. Three of them are 6 inches wide. All of them are too shallow to hold larger cooking utensils. Spatulas and serving spoons wont allow the drawers to close. For this house, my solution is to have a crock on the counter for the "bulky" items. In my heart of hearts I think that "someday" there will be a complete kitchen remodel. The organizers your husband made remind me of the OrderlyDrawer organizers, except those are adjustable as well as custom. (I wouldn't expect your husband to be able to do that, though.
