Organized Kitchen Drawers

by Tanna Clark

After we tackled my bathroom vanity drawer and the utensil drawer in the kitchen I kindly gave my husband the look that said, “Ok, when do we do the rest of the drawers?” He is the cook and he really just wanted the mess of a utensil drawer organized. The organizer that I am just assumed we do all the drawers so everything is aesthetically pleasing.

DIY Drawer Organizer

Again, using the same process as the vanity drawer and using pine like the utensil drawer Hubby got to work cutting out dividers to organize our remaining drawers.

Here is the before shot. We actually had two drawers of flatware because we have a set that we received as a wedding gift and an older set that is lighter and much easier for the kids to handle.

Ahhh, all organized! We were able to fit both sets of flatware and all of our serving pieces into one drawer!

Here are our other beautifully organized drawers!

Organized Drawer 3

We have drawers in the island as well. One drawer for knives, one for plastic bags of all sizes, and a drawer for the aluminum foil/cling wrap/wax paper. To say we have plenty of drawers in the kitchen is an understatement. After organizing the drawers with our DIY dividers and weeding out the things we no longer used we freed up one extra drawer!

Our knives are stored in a drawer organizer we bought at Williams-Sonoma. I know some people that have had to come up with creative ways to store their knives because of curious hands. I know the knives being stored in a drawer is not the safest way to store them with 3 children in the house but we have never had an issue. Hubby lets the kids help in the kitchen alot so that could be the reason. There is no curiosity there, the kids know what the knives are for.

So, what about your drawers? What is your biggest kitchen drawer issue? Not enough drawers, to deep, to wide, too shallow!?

Ooooh… so pretty!
We have 5 drawers. Three of them are 6 inches wide. All of them are too shallow to hold larger cooking utensils. Spatulas and serving spoons wont allow the drawers to close. For this house, my solution is to have a crock on the counter for the “bulky” items. In my heart of hearts I think that “someday” there will be a complete kitchen remodel. Hey, a girl can dream , right?

Oh, your drawers look great! The organizers your husband made remind me of the OrderlyDrawer organizers, except those are adjustable as well as custom. (I wouldn’t expect your husband to be able to do that, though. It looks like a tricky process.)

Super pics. I know you’re thrilled with the result!

We are thrilled! This was much less expensive than the OrderlyDrawer organizers, however if you need to move things around often the customizable organizer would be a great option!

Nice organization. Our silverware drawer looks like your before picture, and that silverware tray keeps sliding to the back of the drawer. This looks like a great solution.

Yes, I can’t stand when stuff slides around in the drawer. Definitely no longer a problem in this house!

Our drawers are too wide and everything just gets jumbled together. I love these custom dividers!

I only have 2 drawers in the kitchen. One is our junk drawer and one is for utensils.
