While organizing a kitchen with a client, she told me some of her recipes were one of the few things she actually had left in her mother’s handwriting and how much they meant to her. I would never try to get her to part with them but I don’t suggest handling them daily either.
First, I recommend making copies of these original recipes and adding them to your recipe file or type it into your computer. Then take some of your favorites and find a way to save them, whether in a scrapbook or archival safe box.
I always recommend finding ways to display items that you truly love so you can enjoy them everyday. With recipes that are family heirlooms I liked this idea from Southern Living magazine. Most kitchens have a little wall space that is not used so why not frame some of those family recipes and display them with pride. What a great way to add a little decoration to the kitchen and remember those that are near and dear to you.
Have you found creative ways to display family heirlooms in your home?

I absolutely love this idea. I have a few recipes in my grandmother’s hand and this would be the perfect way to have them out in view, rather than hiding away. Thanks for posting this!
