Since we decided to turn the playroom into my son’s room the first thing I started to think about was how I wanted to store the toys. Of course if it involves baskets or bins that’s where my thought process goes first! :)

This is how we stored a majority of the toys before. We had plastic bins that had lids. Some toys were sorted out in drawers and the rest were on shelves in the cabinet. This cabinet worked pretty well if I did the maintaining. For the kids there were just too many steps for them to quickly and ungrudgingly put things away. Usually the toys would get dumped and I would have toys every where – a bin here and there and lids scattered about. I learned that the bins with lids were not the best for my kids nor enclosing the toys in a cabinet.
So with my son having the largest amount of toys I wanted something open, yet contained that still looked good. My mission was to simplify the process. Two options came to mind…

Option # 1: The cheapest solution would be to add more wire shelves to his closet and use white Sterilite storage baskets
to store toys. I could dress it up with a label showing what is inside. If he wants Lego’s he can take the Lego basket down and take it with him to play with. No fuss with lids or opening cabinet doors.
Option # 2: Ikea Trofast, a little more expensive but still manageable. This unit would sit along the wall in his room. The bins pull out so like option #1 he can take the bin of toys with him and put them back when he is done. No lids here but they are optional. Labels will look nice on the outside letting him know what is in there without having to slide the bins out.
The main thing I am looking for here is no lids, easy access, no stacking and clearly labeled.
Sorry, you’ll have to stick around to see what option we chose and to get a sneak peek at the color scheme for the room…
Which option would you would choose?

Ooooh…. very nice!
@juliebavi
We have the wire shelves in the closet. I would go for the Trofast.
The trofast is a great idea! I need one for my play room!
I just had to comment that I recently purchased the Trofast system for my playroom. For about $350 filled an entire wall with beautiful storage. Since we assembled it last week, my girls have spent more time playing with their toys. Clean up hasn’t been too terrible; I make sure they do the picking up as they go, or be fore bedtime.
We have Trofast and I can’t say enough good things about it. We labeled each bin with a picture of the kinds of toys inside of it (LEGO, puzzles, etc.) to make clean up easier.
