I admit it, the playroom is a mess. So Hubby and I came to the executive decision to say bye-bye to the playroom and move our 4 year old son in there.
Up until now he has been bunking with his big brother.
My daughter already has her own room and when she takes toys out you know it. But they also take out toys together from the playroom. My thought is to separate the boy’s toys into their rooms and give my daughter the things she plays with the most and put them in her room.
That way we will be giving all the toys an owner and a space that each child needs to take care of.
Our next step was to figure out how we wanted to store his toys…

Great idea Tanna. I do have a rec room in the basement but they only thing it houses is the big toys like a foozeball table, pingpong table and air hockey machine :) The kids are still required to keep their individual toys in their bedrooms.
By the way I love your son’s bunk bed, so cool!
Ooooh, air hockey, hubby would love that. Hmm, where can I fit that in? Hubby bought the plans form OP Loftbed and built it himself. When my youngest son was a baby his crib fit right underneath so it has definitely grown with the family! I’m going to do a whole post on things my husband has built around the house.
Tanna – I organize a lot of playrooms but I often find that playrooms can not only become overwhelming for parents but that kids seem to lose their sense of space. As in, they seem to feel that they can drag and leave things everywhere. I’m a firm believer in keeping things in their spaces where they belong unless being actively used. We have a really small house and my daughter’s things must be able to be stored in her room or we don’t have them. We did just get a cool loft bed for her with bookshelves & a built in armoire which is helping. We just don’t have the room for her to take over. I think, good call on the playroom turning into a bedroom idea.
So far it is working beautifully. I did the whole transformation over the summer but we just painted two weeks ago to finish it all off. He is taking very good care of his new space.
Tanna,
Nice Blog.
I agree. Sometimes even the most well-organized playrooms can just have too much “stuff” for the kiddos to take in. The Toy/Game Overload syndrome. :) Having their own set of toys in their own rooms, let’s them feel ownership and I think they’re more likely to play with things.
I’m doing series on my blog right now about organizing in the “real world.” Please stop by, I’d love your input.
