2 Tips For Curing The Clutter In Your Kitchen

by Tanna Clark

Let’s give a big welcome to this weeks Inside Tips From The Pro’s guest contributor, Peter Walsh! Many of you have probably heard of Peter and the show Clean Sweep. That show was one of the inspirational factors for me becoming a professional organizer. (I had a feeling Peter’s home would be shiny and crisp looking) Make sure you join in every Wednesday right here for another peek into a professional organizer’s home…

Use Vertical Space

If space is at a premium in your kitchen, consider a simple (and very effective) solution for items like serving platters, muffin pans and baking trays. By removing shelves from a cupboard and replacing them with vertical dividers, you can quickly and easily create an organized storage area for these larger items. Stored vertically, these items are easier to locate, harder to chip or damage and visually more pleasing than having them stacked in a deep drawer or cupboard.

Think like a Library

When it comes to storing warranties, appliance manuals, take-out menus or even interesting maps and tourist facts from your local area, consider using a combination of magazine storage boxes (I prefer clear plastic) and binders with clear plastic sleeves.  Printed information can be easily located or updated, and all of this paperwork can be neatly stored in a central cupboard in your kitchen.

Tanna – Thanks for this peek into Peter’s kitchen! His philosophy about honoring your memories, one I heard again and again on Clean Sweep, provided monumental guidance in forming the premise behind Simple Scrapper.

In fact, my most popular post of all time is “The Peter Walsh Guide to Digital Scrapbooking”. I wrote this early on, offering essential tips for simple, digital memory keeping.
