What happens when you take three different organizers and ask them the same organizing question?  We’re not sure, but we’re about to find out.  Join Laura from I’m an Organizing Junkie, Mandi from Organizing Your Way, and me as we take your organizing questions and provide you with three possibly different answers on each of our own blogs.  We aren’t going to discuss our answers ahead of time, so it will be interesting to see if they differ.  What we can agree on for sure, though, is that there is no right or wrong way to organize and that there are many different ways of doing so.  Through this little experiment of ours, we hope to showcase what works best for each of us in various organizing scenarios.  The question is, will we be the same or different? Let’s find out together.  It’s time for Organizing Triple Play!

What Is That Junk In Your Drawer?

I am always amazed to see what people keep in their junk drawers. Because, well it’s junk. Your giving up prime storage real estate! So if your wondering how to organize a junk drawer, first I say dump the junk! Then find an organizer or containers that help you define the spaces where everything you need goes. Leave only a tiny space for the unknown, (you know those items you are holding on to ‘because it might go to something”) and then give everything else a spot.

Junk Drawer 3

Here is my junk drawer. I started using this organizer when my youngest son was a toddler. He would pull everything out of drawers. The lid latches so it would deter him from trying to pull things out. I can safely store things like my stapler, super glue, paper clips, pens and all those other little things that may be scattered in the drawer. I even have a few random keys in there. I can find everything in a snap. Best of all, I can move the dividers to make something else fit and it is easy to keep up with. I also have a separate container for extra pens and one for batteries in the back of the drawer. This worked so well for our junk drawer I use the same organizer in my office drawer.

To find out what Laura and Mandi have to say about organizing your junk drawer, be sure to visit them at I’m an Organizing Junkie and Organizing Your Way. If you have a question you’d like us to tackle next time, leave a comment with your suggestion!

Ooh, I love that it’s closed on the top to keep out the toddler paws, but clear so you can see what’s in there. Brilliant solution! I just got rid of my similar-but-open-topped one because it wasn’t working for me. Where can I find one like that?

It is an IRIS brand container and I last saw some at Target. I cannot find one online right now but if I do I will put the link in the post. It looks like Iris has another type but it doesn’t look as spacious. Will let you know if I find one.
