This past weekend I attended my very first blogging conference. Two years ago I didn’t even know what blogging was. I took the advice of a client and dove right in. I have been blogging for a year and a half now and It never ceases to amaze me how much there is to learn each and every day.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this conference but I took away tons of invaluable advice and made some great new friends! If you want to take your blog to the next level I highly recommend going to a blogging conference. My brain hurts from all of the blogging goodness I took in this weekend at Blissdom!
There is one question that really resonated with me this weekend. Whether you are a blogger or not here is a question you should reflect on.
What does success mean to you?
Bloggers on the panel were asked how they knew when they had reached success on their blog. The reoccurring answer was “It depends on what you consider success.” Is it money, notoriety, readers, comments, subscribers? I spent some time reflecting on that this week.
I never started blogging to earn money. If I do that’s great, I will use it to further educate myself so I can continue helping people and keep this blog current with new developments and features.
For me success comes in the form of emails and comments. A reader has an “ah ha!” moment from one of my suggestions or, I provide a reader with the inspiration to start a project on her own and they write in to tell me about it. Once, I received an email from a colleague thanking me for setting a good example with my site for other organizers to follow. What it comes down to is this… I base my success on how many people I help.
I spend a lot of time thinking about and writing for this blog and I love hearing from you. So if you have a favorite idea or tip you have seen here so far let me know what it is. If you saw a picture that provided you with the inspiration to get an organizing project underway let me know what it was. If you want to see something more or have any suggestions for how I can improve this blog please, please, please let me know. I want you to lay it all out. This is your blog about organizing, how can I make it better?
I have tons of ideas and thoughts rolling around this brain of mine and I promise more features to come but for now I would like to hear form you, the people that make this blog possible.
To the wonderful Allison Worthington and Barbara Jones. Thank you for the wonderful weekend at Blissdom, I am inspired and overwhelmed all at the same time but in a good way!
