Look Out PC There Is A New Mac In Town

by Tanna Clark

I am now the proud owner of a new MacBook. I decided after much deliberation it was time to make the switch. I’ve been a PC girl for quite some time so this will take some getting used to. I had an Apple before there was internet but things are much different now.

I’m actually posting this on my PC. It has been with me for a while and fits like a glove so I am slowly getting settled in on the Mac. Did you know the MacBook only has a delete key, not a backspace. Nor does it have page up, page down, end or home? I like the keyboard because without the extra keys, there is ample space to type even though the computer is smaller than my PC. And not to mention I can turn the Mac on and check emails in the time it takes the PC to get started! Love that!

I’ve had issues with the PC lately and it gave me a scare once so I decided to act now rather than wait for this one to completely die on me. I want to make sure everything is nice an organized before it heads over to the Mac. It gives me a great chance to do a little computer spring cleaning.

Oh, and the best part is that I got an iPod touch with the computer for free (mail in rebate) but really that is not so good because it just makes me want an iPhone. Maybe next year. :)

I want to take productivity to a whole new level with this Mac, so now I would like to hear from other Mac users out there. What are your favorite applications, downloads or programs that you just can’t live without?

Hey welcome to Mactown. I love my Macbook too. I’m jealous you got a free iPod touch though. Mine came with…well the Macbook. I couldn’t do without it period. We also have a eMac going on about 8 Years old (I think) still going strong. iTunes is quickly becoming a favorite. I use the Pages probably the most. Then the usual Quicken, Photoshop, (internet), Dashboard. Some small company products like Propen and Organized Gourmet and yes I still use Appleworks.

I think I need to name mine. I like that idea.

Well, there is one sentence that says it all: “Once you go Mac, you can’t go back”. No further explanation here…

Here’s a few quick aps that might interest you:

Spaces: allows you to organize different projects/files into multiple ‘spaces’ that act like desktops. It’s really great for separating your work, media, and other computer activities.

Dashboard: You get to use widgets (mini applications) that range from sticky notes to movie times. There are a ton of available widgets online that you can download free of charge.

Good luck!

The MacBook does have a page up and page down key if you use a the “fn” (function) key as a modifier. Hold down the function key with the up or down arrow.

Also, you can modify the delete key with the function key as well so there is no functionality difference between the MacBook’s smaller keyboard and a full size one. (Full size Mac keyboards have all the keys, only the notebooks have fewer keys.)

I have a black MacBook….her name is Eve. She is one bad apple, and I love her! If she did the dishes, I would dump my husband and marry her! ;)

Seriously though, congratulations. It shouldn’t take you long to succumb to the Mac Side of life.
