The Overzealous Housewife

by Tanna Clark

In passing my husband mentioned yesterday that he had a $20 check that could get deposited when I go to the bank. Last night while getting ready for bed this was sitting on my vanity…

As I crawled into bed I asked “Is that the check you want me to take to the bank?” Hubby replied, “Yes, apparently my wife was being overzealous in her laundry efforts tonight.” The check was in the pants he wore yesterday which means.. Yes people! I had all of the laundry in the house done! Wooo hooo!

Now, I’m not one for checking pockets. My theory is if you don’t want it washed don’t leave it in your pockets! Luckily I haven’t had many disasters when it comes to stuff in the pockets. There has been a good share of money floating around (finders keepers!) and an occasional rock or Lego but nothing major.

Hubby had to go into work today and let em’ know about the check… here’s what he had to say..

My wife last night diligently laundered my slacks that I wore yesterday. In her haste, the contents of the pockets were not checked prior to their encounter with the aqueous gods. The credit cards and ID faired far better than the mileage check which were residing in the pockets. At the very least make a note of it in your register for a $20.20 check that will not be posted to the account.

The woman who handles the payroll came back with the following statement:

As one of the zealous wives you speak of
I can empathize much with your mate.
We rarely check pockets and, thus, many things
So quickly do meet their fate.
Forgive her, dear Chad, for she meant well you know.
She was trying to be a good wife.
Don’t give her grief, just be understanding.
Let it not cause much marital strife.
Your laborious reckoners will gladly oblige
And will repeat the check cutting task.
But, if you let it happen again
Watch out – we will kick your ………………..

It’s good to know someone in his office has got my back!

That’s great! I think everyone dealt with this perfectly! You (obviously) were doing a perfect job as the loving, doting wife…your husband showed great humor in the whole thing…and the payroll lady knew exactly what to do about! Write a poem! LOL!

This is hilarious! I use to write poems like that to employees when I worked in Corporate. Too fun!! Thanks for bringing back some memories :)
