Thought I would share a few of my observations from our recent flight. Enjoy! Feel free to agree or gripe in the comment section.
1. LIKE the youngest one falling asleep upon take off.
2. LIKE DVD players and headphones for the other two.
3. LIKE flying through clouds.
4. DISLIKE turbulence and sudden declines.
5. LIKE traveling with five and only needing one suitcase and two carry ons. (will like it even more when we don’t need to bring car seats)
6. DISLIKE the idea of paying $15 + for checked baggage to make up for the rising cost of fuel. (we didn’t have to this time because we bought our tickets before American implemented this)
7. DISLIKE being 10th in line to take off and wasting all of that fuel on the runway. (really isn’t there a better solution?)
8. LIKE getting my “complimentary” soda but what happened to my “complimentary” peanuts? (guess what that “free” drink is going to be $2 soon.
Hmmmm. I wonder what flying will be like 5-10 years from now. Gas prices aren’t going to get any lower.

It’s scary, isn’t it? What life will be like because of gas… we need to think of other fuel solutions pronto!
Is that a personal choice Tanna to use a car seat on the plane or is that something the airlines require? I’m flying with my then 3 year old to Toronto in Nov and have never thought about putting him in a seat on the plane. I bring it for when we get there it just didn’t occur to me to use it on the plane. Would love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve flown quite a bit with my kids and I find that under 2 and over that “lap child” stage it is easier to use the car seat. I guess it makes it seem more like the car and they don’t get as antsy. My daughter falls asleep much easier in her car seat.
When my first was younger and we didn’t use the car seat he could easily unbuckle the regular airplane seat belt. He would try to stand in his seat and look around and then start grabbing at everything and everyone. At that age it is a little harder to settle them down once they have discovered how easily they can get out of the seat.
I think by the age of three they understand the rules of seat belts (assuming you enforce them at home) and they do quite well.
This of course applies to flights under 2 hours, after that just pray that you all make it there with nothing spilled or broken and no one screaming. :)
I fly frequently with my 2.5 yr-old. Since we always have a carseat when we arrive at our destination (My parents bought one just to keep at their house), I use the Cares Harness for my daughter. That way, I don’t have to worry about lugging the carseat.
If you DO need the carseat at your destination, you can get a GoGoKidz Travelmate to use. It’s basically a set of wheels that attach to the carseat to allow it to be pulled like a suitcase or pushed like a stroller. You child can even ride IN the carseat while you push/pull it! I have one, but have not used it yet. We’re still using our Cares Harness with great success, but I have the other as a back up, should we need it.
Christy, thanks for the links. Those could come in handy.
For me personally a little to pricey, carrying the car seat wasn’t all that bad. If I flew alone often with all three kids I would consider it though.
We had 7 children meeting up at my grandfathers house, he wasn’t quite prepared with that many car seats :)
Ah. My daughter is the only grandchild on one side…and the only out of town grandchild on the other. Even if they did get a carseat, we could still have borrowed one from one of her cousins!
I didn’t mind the price…mainly because I knew that I would be flying alone with her more than my husband would be going with us. Anything to lessen the stress on me is usually worth it!
I love the likes/dislikes format. And you probably know by now, I love pictures! I don’t foresee traveling with my 7 by air anytime soon…and I’m glad!
